Due to new requirements related to Danish health and safety regulations, new rules have been introduced for shipping tyres to Denmark.

The following conditions apply with immediate effect:

• Shipments containing two unpacked tyres with a combined actual weight exceeding 15 kg may no longer be shipped to Denmark. Such shipments will only be accepted if the tyres are fully enclosed in cardboard packaging.
• Single tyres with an actual weight below 15 kg may continue to be shipped, provided they are correctly packed, shrink-wrapped, or enclosed in cardboard packaging.

A transition period applies to existing customers until 30 September 2026.

From 1 October 2026, all shipments that do not comply with these requirements will be returned to the sender.

Please make sure your shipment is packed in accordance with these requirements before sending it.

The Romanian Parliament has introduced a new logistics fee of 25 RON for every parcel entering Romania that is part of a distance sale from a non EU country, with a declared intrinsic value below 150 EUR. This requirement entered into force on 1 January 2026.

Under Article XXII, paragraph (4) of the applicable Romanian legislation, the responsibility for providing complete and accurate information regarding the origin and nature of the goods lies with the supplier of the goods, the person dispatching the parcel, or the digital platform facilitating the sale.

As a result, you, as the shipper, are legally obliged to provide GLS with precise information for every shipment falling under this regulation, specifically to:

• Confirm whether a parcel qualifies as a direct import from a non EU country.
• Supply all required data elements usually needed for simplified customs procedures, including declaration of origin.
• Ensure that all information provided is complete, truthful, and consistent with the physical goods and commercial documentation.

GLS is legally responsible for collecting, declaring, and remitting the logistics fee to the Romanian authorities. We depend entirely on the information you provide. Therefore, any missing, incorrect, or misleading information may result in penalties, additional fees, or legal consequences. All associated costs incurred by GLS will be forwarded to the customer responsible.

Procedures Based on Your Shipping Profile

To ensure compliance while minimizing operational impact, GLS has introduced two procedural paths:

1. EU based Shippers

Many of our European customers ship goods that are produced and stored within the European Union. To keep the administrative burden low, we have created a dedicated form that allows you to declare that this regulation does not apply to any of your shipments: General Customer Declaration.

In case of sporadic IOSS imports, a declaration for these shipments remains available. In such cases, please follow the procedure outlined under “Irregular Shippers / Mixed Goods.”

2. Irregular Shippers / Mixed Goods

If you ship irregularly or your shipping profile does not clearly fall into the category above, you may declare your obligation regarding the logistics fee on a per parcel basis. This can be done conveniently online via the GLS homepage: Online Per-Parcel Declaration.

Dr. Karl Pfaff will be appointed as GLS Group CEO effective October 01, 2023. He will take over from Martin Seidenberg, who has been appointed as Group CEO of IDS plc in August 2023.

With the succession of Dr. Pfaff GLS continues to build on GLS experienced leadership.Dr. Pfaff has a proven track record in international logistics. He joined GLS in 2014 after working for Lufthansa Group and Bain & Company. Dr. Pfaff held various positions in strategy, sales and operational management at GLS before he was appointed as CEO of GLS Germany in 2020 and became member of the GLS Group Executive Team. Currently, Dr. Pfaff is Group Area Managing Director responsible for Germany and BeNeLux.

This Wednesday, 9 November, the union front in Belgium has announced a national strike that will affect all sectors to protest against the wage norm.

Many of GLS employees will be at our depots on Wednesday evening to handle the parcels, to minimize the impact of this strike.

Strikes also lead to road blocks, which affects traffic and thus accessibility to our sorting centers. Unfortunately, we have limited control over this part of our service, but we have already adjusted our transport plans and schedules to minimize processing and delivery delays.

France is facing fuel supply disruptions because of a strike at Total Energy company which represents 60% of fuel distribution in France. The French government is actively working with the company to solve this issue as soon as possible. This shortage has consequences for Linehauls and Last miles but also for the daily life of citizens which leads to tensions.

In this highly inflationary context in France, a union organized on Monday hub blockades in four Hubs (Paris with Fleury and Roissy, Rhônes-Alpes with Lyon and South West with Brive).

A lot of parcels could not be processed. Operational teams manage the priorities.

Communication Workers Union’s (CWU) announced industrial actions on 13th, 20th and 25th of October in the United Kingdom. This will also affect GLS’ delivery partner, Parcelforce Worldwide. To avoid any negative impact on GLS parcel deliveries to the UK as much as possible, we have a contingency plan in place that will ensure that parcels can still be customs cleared and delivered during the planned actions. Customs broker CCL and parcel delivery provider EVRi will take over the clearance and delivery of UK shipments.

For you, there won’t be any changes. We are confident that we will continue to provide our customers with consistent and reliable service during these days.

Amsterdam, 30 May 2022 – Today, GLS starts rolling out an international brand campaign. After last year’s brand refresh, GLS aims to set the next step in building its brand. With the campaign, created in collaboration with creative agency dentsuACHTUNG!, GLS demonstrates one of its most important characteristics: its personal approach towards parcel delivery.

The campaign is constructed from GLS’ belief that for both senders and receivers ‘it’s never just a parcel’. The campaign is built around key interaction moments with customers: the pick?up or delivery of a parcel. It illustrates that any shipment contains so much more than just its contents: the hopes, dreams and ambitions in each GLS parcel. The short-format videos revolve around a special delivery displaying the meaning of GLS’ services in people’s everyday lives.

The campaign, rolled out across Europe and North America, actively communicates GLS’ refreshed brand, that was recently revealed. “The campaign reflects GLS’ personal approach to parcel delivery and it will help us even more to show our customers who we are”, says Marleen Rooders, Senior Manager Group Strategy, Marketing & Communications at GLS. “In the past year, we have made some important steps to further strengthen our brand and to stand out in the market, sharpening our brand promise to become people’s favorite parcel partner. An international brand campaign is an important next step in telling the GLS story across our markets.

The GLS story was translated into a campaign by dentsuACHTUNG!. Diederik Mulder, Art Director at dentsuACHTUNG! says: “To show GLS’ people-centric attitude, we chose to use a different perspective of parcel delivery: the person receiving the parcel. For them it’s not just a parcel, because its content brings value to their lives. In all situations that we show in the campaign, something as simple as a parcel delivery means the world to a specific person. The brand line ‘Parcels to People’ sums that up in three words.”

The campaign consists of video, print, Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising, social channels, and digital advertising, and will be rolled out across Europe and North-America, with first markets starting from May 30th .

The FDS service contains an e-mail notification of the expected delivery time. The second e-mail notification the recipient receives after the parcel arrives at the destination and contains the time and day of delivery. All email notifications include links to a website where the recipient can change the place of delivery.

In case of a failed delivery attempt, depending on the country, you can choose one of the following options:

• Delivery at new address
• Delivery at another time
• Personal collecting the parcel
